In September, Applied Policy hosted a meeting with members of the Georgia Healthcare Group, a provider of a broad range of healthcare services throughout the country of Georgia. The meeting was the final stop on a tour of the United States organized by Laura Cranston of Cranston and Associates and Harry Travis of The Travis Group, LLC as a means of acquainting the group with best practices from players across the U.S. healthcare space.
In a conversation focused on the U.S. healthcare system, Applied Policy’s CEO and President, Jim Scott, and Health Policy Director for Pharmaceuticals, Alison Falb, explained the role the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) plays in healthcare policy and how Applied Policy supports clients across the healthcare sector in navigating annual and ad-hoc CMS rulemaking, as well as new legislation impacting healthcare stakeholders.
In addition to providing an overview of Medicare coverage and payment, Scott and Falb discussed the interaction between new legislation and CMS rulemaking. For illustration, they explained how the recently passed Inflation Reduction Act, which will have a significant impact on Medicare Part D, is expected to be addressed and implemented in future CMS rulemaking.
On a company-specific level, Scott and Falb outlined some of the ways in which Applied Policy helps clients navigate the U.S. healthcare system—including addressing coverage issues, formulary issues, regulatory questions, and drug and device coding.
But the conversation was not one-sided. The meeting offered Applied Policy a rare opportunity to ask questions about Georgia’s healthcare system and the Georgia Healthcare Group’s strategies for serving a growing patient base. “It’s always great to share ideas and perspectives,” said Scott, “and our meeting with Georgia Healthcare Group was a chance for all involved to broaden their horizons.”
