A specialty association came to Applied Policy needing to gain broad support for a legislative initiative to combat Medicare fraud outside of traditional lobbying efforts. It was understood that the initiative would be politically difficult to pass without acknowledged support from related associations and key agency officials. Applied Policy carefully crafted a strategic plan for garnering support from these stakeholders for the client’s legislative initiatives. This began by evaluating the feasibility of the proposal and refining the language so that the initiative would be appealing to additional stakeholders. Applied Policy then utilized its broad network within the health policy community to schedule meetings with association representatives and officials from agencies such as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the Department of Health & Human Services Office of the Inspector General. For these meetings, the Applied Policy team produced deliverables such as initial research, meeting materials and logistical preparations to achieve maximum results. Individual meetings with key stakeholders garnered broad-based support for the client’s legislative initiative, strengthening the building blocks for the client’s traditional Congressional lobbying efforts.
