Shana Durant, MD

durant_shana_webShana Durant is a Physician Advisor at Applied Policy. As a practicing emergency physician, Dr. Durant provides an in depth clinical perspective on the real-world implications of health policy.

Prior to joining Applied Policy, Dr. Durant served as the inaugural fellow in the Georgetown University/MedStar Health, Health Policy Fellowship program. During this fellowship, Dr. Durant worked with Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-36) on projects addressing the many health-related issues facing his constituents. Dr. Durant also spent time with the Association of American Medical Colleges, Health Care Affairs division, working on issues pertaining to the implementation of Alternative Payment Models (APMs) such as the Bundled Payments for Care Improvement Initiative (BPCI), and the Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CCJR). In addition, Dr. Durant interned with Applied Policy before accepting a permanent position.

Dr. Durant received her Bachelor of Science in Integrated Biological Sciences from the University of Florida and received her Doctorate of Medicine (M.D.) from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. She completed her emergency medicine residency at Parkland Hospital, one of the busiest Level I Trauma Centers in the country.

In addition to working at Applied Policy, Dr. Durant is a faculty physician in Washington, D.C.
